Toothpaste price comparison: the store and the tube size set the price
The quick answer: compare toothpaste on the price per 100g, and check Chemist Warehouse and Priceline as well as Coles and Woolworths. On 22 October 2026, the same Colgate Total Active Prevention 200g tube cost about two fifths less at Chemist Warehouse than at Coles, Woolworths and Priceline. ALDI's own Dentitex 200g tube cost less per 100g than any Colgate tube we checked.
Toothpaste comes in tubes from 40g to 240g, plus twin packs. The shelf price only tells you what one tube costs. The unit price is the number that lines up a 40g travel tube with a 200g family tube.

Which toothpaste is cheapest per 100g?
Here is how toothpaste lined up in Discount Trolley on 22 October 2026, lowest first. We show the price per 10g, the view you get when you tap the unit price, so each line reads in cents. None of these tubes were on special that day.
The spread is huge. A Colgate Total 200g tube at Coles or Woolworths cost more than five times as much per 100g as ALDI's Dentitex tube, and a specialty tube like Colgate Optic White can cost more again.

Coles, Woolworths, Priceline or Chemist Warehouse: same tube, different price
This is the big one. On 22 October 2026, Colgate Total Active Prevention Deep Clean 200g was the same shelf price at Coles and Woolworths, and Priceline was a cent less. At Chemist Warehouse the same tube cost about two fifths less. Other Colgate Total flavours in the same 200g size, such as Whitening, lined up the same way. The Chemist Warehouse price matched its own website when we checked it that morning.
Chemist Warehouse is not lower on every tube, though. At Priceline, Colgate Total Original 200g sat at a much lower shelf price than the other flavours, and on that tube Priceline was nearly a dollar less than Chemist Warehouse. So check the exact tube you buy as well as the brand.

Big tube or travel tube: what the 40g tube costs you
Small tubes are handy in a toilet bag, but you pay for the size. At Coles and Woolworths on 22 October 2026, Colgate Total Deep Clean cost about two thirds more per 100g in the 40g tube than in the 200g tube.
At Priceline, Colgate Total Original was 30 cents per 10g in the 200g tube, about 35 cents in the 115g tube and about 65 cents in the 40g tube. The travel tube cost more than twice as much per 100g as the big one.

House brand, everyday tubes and specialty tubes
ALDI's own Dentitex Advanced Whitening 200g cost about 10 cents per 10g on 22 October 2026. That was about a third of the Colgate Total price at Chemist Warehouse, and under a fifth of the Colgate Total price at Coles and Woolworths. ALDI's prices matched the ALDI website when we checked it the same morning.
Plain everyday tubes are the next step up. Colgate Cavity Protection 240g cost about 17 cents per 10g at Chemist Warehouse and about 18 cents at Priceline, and Colgate Triple Action 210g sat close behind.
Specialty tubes such as Sensodyne and Colgate Optic White cost a lot more. At Chemist Warehouse, Sensodyne Repair and Protect 100g cost more than three times as much per 100g as Colgate Total 200g, and Colgate Optic White Renewal 85g more than four times as much. If you use a particular toothpaste for a reason, keep using it. Just compare that tube across stores.

Toothpaste specials: check the price history
At Coles and Woolworths, the price of Colgate Total moves around a lot. In Discount Trolley price history, Colgate Total Active Prevention Deep Clean 200g at Coles has dropped to half its shelf price again and again over the past year, most recently in mid September, with other weeks at a smaller discount. Woolworths shows the same pattern on the same tube, most recently in mid October. On 22 October 2026 it was back at its full shelf price at both.
At half its shelf price, the Coles or Woolworths tube works out lower per 100g than the Chemist Warehouse price we saw on 22 October. So if Coles or Woolworths is your only stop, a full price week is a poor time to stock up. The Chemist Warehouse price on this tube has moved over the past year too, so check it on the day.
